One could analyze the pro's and con's of each of the available solutions, from perspectives such as of privacy, anti-money-laundering or inclusiveness.  Instead, we start with a fundamental question - How do we want to pay? - and provide a comprehensive list of problem domains (technical, economical, security, privacy, etc.) that any payment system has to deal with.
